Wanna help me celebrate my brithday? Donate to CHEO’s Child Life fund where 100% of the proceeds go to giving children in treatment toys, movies, books, art supplies, craft kits and more.
Next Saturday is my birthday. As I get older, I realize I don’t really need anything. Not personally. I have many, many blessings. I owe a lot to the people who got me here; my parents, my family and the caring professionals at CHEO.
The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario is the backdrop to my childhood. Isolation rooms, surgeries, experimental treatments and multiple drug therapies. Those things were made better by in room activities, crafts, art and other forms of entertainment.
Isolation, ‘90s Style.
In quarantine three weeks thanks to the chicken pox. This is what having an autoimmune disease does to you.
Every April when my birthday rolls around, I ask that you give to CHEO’s Child Life fund. 100% of the proceeds go towards putting smiles on children’s faces. The money buys movies, games, books, craft sets, toys and more for children in treatment.
Last year, people gave physical donations of new toys with special, personalized messages of hope and love while others donated online. Unfortunately, we cannot do that this year. Due to COVID-19, I’m asking for direct financial donations only, if possible. I haven’t been able to promote it on my radio show because, frankly, it’s a strange time right now. We’re all being pulled in different ways emotionally, physically, financially.
If you can give, please do. Not only will this be the best birthday gift EVER for ME, you’re giving kids like me a gift, too. And THAT is priceless.
Staying Social & Self-Isolating
Join me Thursday, April 23 @ 8PM for a live chat! PJs encouraged!!
We’re all being asked to self-isolate and to obey physical distancing. With that in mind, how should we keep social? Socializing means different things to different people. I’ve decided to get more comfortable with live video chats.
Follow me on Instagram for more!
Gives me an excuse to put on eyeliner and brush my hair… as for getting out of my pyjamas, well, stay tuned!
Birthday Wish for CHEO
Last year I was inspired to dedicate my birthday to kids in treatment at CHEO. I know how long and boring those days can be in isolation - I think we can all relate, too, on some level thanks to this outbreak.
This year, things will be a little different. Yes. I’m still getting older on the 25th. Yes. There are still a lot of children, from babies to teens, receiving life saving (and life altering) treatment in hospital. Many are confined to small, isolated rooms. Some are cut off from their friends and family. Others have to miss out on normal kid stuff because they are sick.
To help make their day a little brighter, I decided to direct any and all attention from myself to them.
Were you going to buy me a card? Were you thinking of taking me out for lunch, dinner, a pint or a coffee? Were you maybe going to gift me a scratch card or cold hard cash (a classic granny move)?
If you answered ‘yes’ or ‘I was thinking of maybe doing that’. First, thank you! Second, please throw that money here:
This is my second year doing this for the kids and, working with the CHEO Foundation, I have made sure 100% of the proceeds go directly to FUN! Art supplies, craft kits, toys, stuffies, movies and other sources of entertainment.
Last year, I was blown away with all the support and gifts given for the kids. This year, I will not be accepting any physical donations in person. I do want to see the faces of those who ARE giving though, so please send me selfies of you with your BIGGEST smiles alongside any messages you wish to give to children in treatment.
This campaign will last the entire month of April. Please help me spread the word for our young friends self-isolating at our wonderful CHEO.
Quick Vid of My Daily Grind
This is a little glimpse into my busy day in the studio. 📻
A lot of people *might* not know this about me... but I'm quite the multi-tasker when it comes to being on-air. It's a temporary engagement, hosting KROCK 105.7 (Kingston) weekdays 10-3 WHILE I host 9-2 on KiSS 105.3 (Ottawa) but thanks to tech, I can do both from the same studio.
This short video gives you a tiny peak about what I do for *5 hours+ every day. I'm only filling in for a few weeks but WOW does it ever feed my soul to be hosting a ROCK show again. :-)
*Not shown: curating prep, handling social media (personal & station; Insta, FB, Twitter), responding to text messages, e-mails and answering/editing/airing calls.
When I say I'm busy - believe it!
Let's Get Digital
We are getting some cameras installed at work to add another dimension to our on-air shows.
While most of what you see is either planned or polished, I’m also hoping to get more real with you.
Every week, I will personally answer ONE question about what life is like working for a radio station in Canada’s capital, my experiences both personal and professional, and how cool it is to be a physically disabled female working in such a fast paced and exciting industry.
No holds barred - you can literally, ask me anything.
