Now & Then
Fall 2017:
Fall 1987:
Wheelbarrows never go out of style. We are so blessed to have this great family space to share love, laughs & good cheer. See you next season, cottage!
Happy hour snacks!
I only do THIS once a year...
Every day, the Ottawa Mission serves up three warm meals for people in need. Yes, it’s a men’s shelter but the meals are for everyone. No one is turned away. I can personally vouch for that.
The holidays are an extra special time. More love is shown in a wonderful display of charity, kindness, togetherness, cheer. Things that exist permanently within the Mission’s walls but really shine through during Thanksgiving Service. Guests of the Mission are invited to bring their friends and families and have a proper meal served to them.
Volunteers like these big events the most because the warmth kinda stays with you extra long when you’re a part of something so special. It’s difficult to physically become a volunteer on these days because they’re so HOT! But don’t dispair. Help is still needed and you can be a part of the Mission’s Thanksgiving feast on Monday, October 9th.
Rogers Radio has teamed up with the Mission. For TWO DAYS, it’s a Turkey Drop blitz! Listeners are encouraged to bring in food donations (large frozen turkeys) as it takes 80-90 20lb turkeys to pull off this magical meal. It’s also a fun way to get your name or shout out on your favourite station: 1061Chez, KiSS1053, 1310News or Country1011.
If haulin’ a bird to the station ain’t your bag...
via the Mission’s official release: Financial donations can be made online at ottawamission.com, over the phone or in person. Frozen turkey donations can be dropped off at any time at The Ottawa Mission’s front desk, located at 35 Waller St. Arrangements can also be made to have turkey donations picked up by calling 613-234-1144, ext 248.
Working Mom Life
I'm blessed to work in a field that I love with other solid human beings. I'm on maternity leave until November but have been doing some voice over work from home (yes, it's all legal & junk). Got a cute lil VO (voice over) studio set up in the basement. I usually set baby up in her little bouncy seat while I voice scripts. She has been teething (we think) lately and not sleeping a whole lot... so today was a little difficult to say the least.
Yes. It's 3:13PM and I'm posting this from bed where baby is currently having a feed. Let it be known that baby is six months old & seriously fighting nap time while mommy was trying to get some editing done.
Ultimately... baby won this battle! Sorry to my producers!!! This is a day in the life of a work from home (exhausted) mother.
Gun totin' Granny
Macklemore's latest single "Glorious" is accompanied by a pretty cool music video. It's a video of him taking his Grandmother out to do a bunch of awesome stuff.
This is my Granny. I'm not sure how old she is in this picture. She is 89 this year and doesn't get out much. Her choice. She prefers her cozy surroundings and has a rough time outside her creature comforts. She has 6 children, 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. We wouldn't be here without her.
instead of liking or sharing this on social media (which she doesn't have), call her. Ok. If we're not related, don't call HER but call your Grandmother, Grandfather, parents, God parents, you get the picture.
Life gets busy. It gets complicated. Find the time to connect with your older relatives (if you have 'em and like 'em). It means the world to them.
Share some love!
Happy Mother's Day, Internet.
Everyone's sharing photos of their mom on social media today. Maybe not "their mom" exactly... but it's nice to see motherly figures have their day.
To that effect, Happy Mother's Day to the caretakers out there. Being a mom is the ultimate caretaking job. For example: I just made a bath for Aurora and the second I put her in it, she pooped. Everywhere. Haha! I've been pooped, peed and puked on at least once per day for the last week or so and I wouldn't have it any other way. It's cosmic payback, I guess.
God bless technology for allowing us to give our moms shoutouts. For those whose folks aren't online, aren't available or who've passed, sharing a nice memory and/or photo can be cathartic. I had the pleasure of receiving a bunch of baby pics of me from my mom today.
Me and mom! Snappy dresser, eh?
This was my 1st Christmas, I think. Dad was 33 or 34 here. What is he drinking from? Is that a cup or a Barbie toilet??
Mom had me at 23. She beat me by 5 years. So young!
Me and dad.
Me at the cottage! Sweet boots!
Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there doing their absolute best.
It really is Baby's Day though, isn't it? ;)
