Matt Mays on Strange Times, 'Dog City' and the State of Rock n Roll
My conversation with Matt Mays on CHEZ106 ahead of his live album, ‘From Burnside With Love’, release next Friday, February 12th. A livestreamed concert event to follow on Saturday, February 13th. Get your tickets at MattMays.com/tour.
Matt Mays and his band are keeping fans very entertained during these strange times with the release of their live 'From Burnside With Love' album out Friday, February 12th. The semi-unplugged set was recorded from his hometown of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. It's release is followed by a livestreamed concert event, happening Saturday, February 13th.
You can grab tickets to the show, a perfect Valentine's date night thing if you ask me, online here.
Matt released his 8th studio album 'Dog City' last September with a whopping 484 dogs on the cover, although over 700 photos were submitted. Written from the perspective of a rescue dog, it delivers his (and his bands') signature folk-rock vibes with wonderful moments of Marc Bolan (T. Rex), Elliott Smith and the Velvet Underground. Check out that Stooges cover, too!

Here's my full conversation with Matt about pandemic life, the need to perform and the future of live shows. I mean, we talked for near 13 minutes, so we covered a log of ground but I won't type it all out here when you could just click the play button (below).
‘From Burnside With Love' is out next Friday and the livestream concert event follows on Saturday.
After the premiere, you have until Monday, Feb. 15 at 10 p.m. EST to watch the video. Tickets cost only $20.00 all in (or at least that's what option I chose to purchase). The other option costs from $70.00 to $90.00 CAD and includes your ticket PLUS an autographed copy of 'From Burnside With Love' on vinyl (3 LP set)..
The AV Social Hour: 'Ghost Stories'
Been feeling haunted lately? You’re not alone. Ask and you shall receive… The Thursday, May 7th edition of our weekly Social Hour (live chat) had a theme and that theme was ‘ghost stories and spiritual encounters’. I didn’t even get to all of your stories, though some are available here and here.
One of the stories submitted by Mandy on Facebook includes pictures, so with her permission I am including that story here:
MANDY’S ENCOUNTER
“My fiancé and I went to Fort Henry in October for their haunted walk. A few things happened but the best one was coming into the bakery and all of a sudden i started getting dizzy and kept burping like crazy like I was ready to puke. Well, come to find out the spirit that died in that kitchen was not a happy one and seeing as I am an empath, I guess I was the only one she could get too. After leaving that kitchen, we went back outside. I felt this feeling come over of me and my fiancé had the camera. This is the picture he captured just as I walked out the door
We NEED to Talk.
In times of darkness look for the light.
Working in media, I find myself consuming a lot of stories. Constantly paying attention to global issues. I become attached to stories that move me.
Sometimes the hardest stories are the ones we wish we never heard but they are the ones we need to hear the most.
Beyond playing your favourite pop music during my radio show or sharing a few laughs about celebrity news or whatever, I’m a human trying to process the state of the world through a sometimes indescribably horrid lens.
Talking allows me to process the tougher stories and harsher realities that come along with absorbing so much.
I feel these stories and I genuinely want to help. It’s the only way I know how.
Neon Dreams @ KiSS
Frank Kadillac and Adrian Morris of Neon Dreams chat with Amy Volume from KiSS Ottawa ahead of their show at the 27 Club, Thursday, November 8th.
We last spoke with Frank Kadillac and Adrian Morris in 2016 when they released their breakaway hit "Marching Bands" ft. Kardinal Offishall. Since then, they've released 2 EPs, 2017's 'Wolf, Princess and Me' and 2016's 'To You' and have been working away on their forthcoming debut LP(rumoured to drop in 2019...they definitely seem to enjoy teasing us with that).
Neon Dreams are featured on Prime Minister Trudeau's Spotify Playlist, so I obviously had to ask how that made them feel. Surprised? Honoured? Intimidated by his fantastic hair? They got to meet Trudeau, aka 'little prince' according to Frank, and he definitely made a stylish impact.
Adrian reveals he once slept through sound check the one and only time Ria Mae asked him to play for her. Obviously things are cool with the boys and Ria as they're out on tour right now. Catch them at the 27 Club, the markets most intimate live music venue, Thursday, November 8. CLICK HERE for more information and to buy tickets.
Neon Dreams have a new single out called 'Guilty'. You can hear it by CLICKING HERE.
For context, there were some irritating tech issues happening in studio during filming.*

Gwen Stefani Has a "Makeout Playlist"
Last night on The Voice, co-stars Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton joked back and forth about Stefani's "makeout playlist." The convo was kickstarted by a contestant who chose to sing "I Want to Know What Love Is" from Foreigner. If you're a 70s child or 80s baby... that song was definitely on your makeout list, right?
“You took a song that’s actually on my makeout playlist.”
Stefani's boyfriend, Blake Shelton, took her admission as an opportunity to say "I told you I knew that song!" The two Voice coaches have been dating since November 2015.
