Ghost Stories for 2022

Spooky season is upon us and while, I’m 99% ready to start decorating the house, I’m 100% in the mood to start collecting your ghost stories for special Halloween programming on the radio.

If you have a story about something that happened to you that you could not explain, something with a ‘paranormal’ vibe to it, I want to hear it!

There are a few ways for you to share your stories:

Your voice tells your story best: I can call you through my laptop & record our conversation (there are a few ways to do this including Skype, Teams, Zoom, etc.) OR you can record yourself telling the story, and don’t worry about messing up, I will be editing all stories (audio only) for air.

Your story in your words: If you would prefer to tell the story in text, that works too. Send me an e-mail and we’ll go from there.

Happy Halloween 2021: Yer Ghost Stories

A collection of spooky tales from the people who lived them. Ghost stories, UFO sightings, paranormal experiences… Things that cannot be explained but were certainly felt by those who’ve shared their stories with me this Halloween.

A few years back I was rushed to the hospital because I had a very bad allergic reaction to medication.

I was admitted overnight for observation and was hooked up to some IVs. While I was sleeping, I rolled over and my dad was sitting there reading the newspaper. He told me to “go back to bed, everything would be OK”, so that is what I did.

When I woke up in the morning I looked over where he was sitting and I saw the newspaper folded on the table.

My dad passed away in 1996… years prior… He, obviously, was watching over me that night and came back to visit.

- Lisa

A couple of weeks ago, my two year old kept saying “Papa! Papa!” while pointing to the corner of her room.

I let it go as my father in law had just come for a visit. Later, while I was rocking her to sleep with the lights off, she pointed to the corner again and said, “Hi Papa”, then she smiles and says, “Papa hiding!” At this point, I felt a breeze of cold on my arm and a sudden chill.

I decided to show her some pictures.

A picture of my father-in-law: no reaction. A picture of my grandfather: no reaction. A picture of my step-dad: no reaction. Then I showed her a picture of my biological father and she said, “Papa! Mommy’s daddy!”

I never refer to my biological dad. Ever. My kids know my step-dad as my dad. My biological dad passed in 1996.

To say the least, I bought white sage and am going to smudge the house.

- Heather

I was 11 years old when grandfather passed. About  2 weeks after his death, my father kept asking me who I was talking to. I answered, “Gug”, but dad says, “He passed away”. I said, “I know!”

What happened was, I woke up ‘cause there was a weight on my feet and there was my Gug! Sitting on the end of bed! So I said “Hi Gug”, and he said “Hi Karl. Don't be scared, I'm in a good place and doing fine. Don't worry, you will  be here with me later”, and you know what? I think I will be with my Gug again, but not for a while I hope. I'm 62 and I will see my Gug again!

My mom loved tulips. Adored them. Especially the red ones. But she would only look at them in magazines or on other’s properties as she would joke she “couldn’t take care of flowers to save her life.” So she never planted anything.

She passed away on sept 1,2001. On sept 11th there were the attacks on the world trade center.

I was still at her house sorting out her things and I really needed to get some air with everything happening. I went outside into her backyard and in the corner, by the cedars, was a big beautiful red tulip.

Freaked me out. But then made me smile.

- Mike

When I was twelve years old, me and a bunch of girls played Ouija board. We ask for signs and the typical stuff! I was sitting with the bay window behind me and when I asked for my dead grandpa to give us a sign that bay window exploded behind me! He was an alcoholic and many years ago, on a drunken night, he broke the bay window in my dad’s childhood house! Never EVER played that game again!

My mom used to work at this boutique in Mexico that was owned by a cousin. I used to drop by and help move things, and do things for my Mom that she couldn’t do. I came in one time and just before going to lunch, my Mom said, “There’s this one door at the back of the store that I cannot open, I was told to put extra boxes there; can you help?” So we go to the back and there’s the door, behind another door. So, I give the knob a twist and… it opens!

I said, “What are you taking about? It was unlocked!“

We open the door and find this room, which looked more like a corridor, and it’s really really long. Me being me, I want to go see how long it is. We start down the corridor and it goes on and on... We stop after a minute walking and turn around and the door where we came in looks really, really small, so we decided to head back. Fast. And, finally, we get out.

After that experience, I decided that that corridor seemed too long. I’m wondering if it’s even possible. So we go outside the building and count steps along the block to the street behind and determine it’s around 175 steps or so to the end of the street.

Armed with this new info, we go back inside and this time, with a flashlight just in case, we start walking into this corridor. We count up to 200 steps… and there’s more… that’s when we stop and literally run back to the entrance door and close it.

We still talk about it in our family. As for the door? The next day we summoned up some courage and decide we are walking to the end! Well, we could never open that door again and the landlord had no interest in investigating saying, “it didn’t matter because it was not part of the rented premises.”

I still get goosebumps thinking about it, and still look at old building entrances with apprehension.

About twenty three years ago I decided to go on a little trip across Canada with my best friend at the time. We were eighteen and had no plans but to hang out and party for a month straight.

We stayed at my friend's father's house which was in the middle of nowhere Alberta and very old .

My friends grandmother (at the time) was quite ill and my friend Mike was sad and worried that something bad would happen. On my third night there I decided to go to sleep before Mike. He was still in the living the room listening to the radio .

You know that point when you start to fall asleep and you’re kinda awake but kinda dreaming at the same time? Well, I was about there when I heard a strange voice say, "Don't worry Mike, she will be ok." I passed it off as my brain just running wild, until a second later… Mike came bolting into my room asking me, “Did you just hear that? Did you hear somebody tell me she was going to be ok? That came from the speakers!!!"

I sat up and realized that I was not dreaming. We both heard the same thing.

Needless to say, we were freaked out and we ended up crashing at the camp up the road. The next day, we spoke to Mike's dad and kinda mentioned what had happened and he said that most people who have slept there have had something odd happen.

The only other thing that happened to us while there was not half as scary but odd non the less. We could stay in  the house for days straight and nothing would happen but the second we both left, we would always come back to all the breakers tripped in the fuse box. If we left together ten times in one hour, we would have to reset the breakers ten times. If we stayed in and didn't leave, there was never an issue.

I am not a true believer in this stuff but I can't explain it. Never happened before the trip and in the twenty years since, I have not seen anything else like it… that I could not explain.

- John

I had been working at a local community hockey rink; working hard shoveling and flooding the ice.
I was in the washroom and had just finished washing my hands. I had literally just turned off the water in the sink and still had my hands on the hot and cold water taps when the hand dryer behind me turned on.
Every hair on my body stood up with fear. I was covered in goosebumps.
This was an air dryer that you had to push the knob for it to work. My hands were still wet and in the sink.
Frozen, I said a loud "Thank you!" turned around and dried my hands.
That was a little frightening.

We had just moved into a new house when my daughter was two and we were shopping in a store that gave out free samples. The sample lady told us that,

“Your daughter can see things. She can see THEM. If they bother you, tell them to Go Away".

Weird, right? So we left the store.

A couple nights later, I wake up at around 2 AM because I’d heard something. Turns out it was my daughter walking down the hallway (she just graduated out of the crib into the bigger bed).

I follow her down the hallway, say her name and she turns to look at me. I noticed that she looks totally out of it; eyes wide open, but not really looking at me and she says, in the creepiest voice I've ever heard,

"This child should not be here."

At this point I am obviously freaking out. I walk over to her, pick her up and bring her back to her room, put her in bed, turn around to leave and find that her door is closed behind me.

I walk over to the door and grab the handle when I hear this blood curdling scream coming from behind me. I turn around and my daughter is sitting up in her bed screaming and pointing at the door. I go over to console her for a few minutes and she finally calms down and I go back to bed.

When I get back to bed, my wife asked “What's going on?” I explain everything and she says, “Yeah, I heard a bunch of noise and I have to work in the morning so I came and closed the door behind you.”

Scared the living hell out of me. Only reasonable explanation is that my daughter was sleepwalking or, at least, I hope she was sleepwalking.

- Jaret

ANONYMOUS TEXTER: “I don't know if this is much of a ghost story. But when I was a child I was playing with a first choice play set. I remember so clearly, I was sitting down and look at the wall and my shadow stood up and waved at me. I freaked out and went to my parents but got shrugged off. I'll never forget that day.”

Ghost Stories: 2019 Edition

“One time I was sleeping at my aunt's house and I woke up in the middle of the night to what I thought was my aunt's silhouette in the dark. I was trying to talk to her but no answer. Went back to bed and asked her the next morning if she had come to the room during the night and she said no! I was terrified.” - Chris

“When I was pregnant with my firstborn the doctors told me that he had an abnormality and might require surgery after his birth. Obviously this was devastating news and I spent a lot of time praying.

One night I woke up in the middle of the night and in the door to my sons bedroom, which was back-lit by his blue night light. Was the unmistakable shadow of my grandpa who had passed. I turned to wake my husband but when I looked back at the door. The figure was gone.

I called my grandmother the next morning and she told me that very night she had prayed to my grandfather to watch over my baby.

Also, the doctors made a mistake and my son was born happy and healthy!”

- Lindsay

When I was 6 until I was 8 we lived in a house in Toronto. At night, the hinge pins behind the door would move up. My mom said I was making it up to scare my brother but what kid is THAT imaginative?! To this day, I maintain it was unexplained ghost behaviour.
— Nat

“One night my husband and I were sitting on the couch watching television. Both of our children were in bed sleeping and I heard two little feet hit the floor fairly hard and run across the floor which sounded like they were going to the washroom. I went upstairs to see if they were OK and when I got there they were both in bed sleeping… I cannot explain the sound or what that was. Creepy.” - Cindy

“A week or two after my Nanny had passed away when I was younger I had just gotten home from a birthday party. I was in bed and felt this weird pull to just sit up and look at the end of my bed. I saw my nanny sitting there smiling and she said I love you. I didn't know what to do so I laid down and went back to bed. But it gave me the closure I so desperately needed.” - Amanda

“I always have the feeling someone is getting into bed with me. Like the literal "movement" of the person laying down. It only happens when my husband is not there. Its gotten so bad that i now sleep with a light on so i can see if there is someone there!” - Linda

“My husband and I purchased a 2009 Ford Mustang and had it brought to Canada from California. Long story short, my husband has this gift that he can see spirits and stuff, and one time he was driving home with the mustang and saw a shadow figure of a woman in the back seat. She was trying to speak to him and he had asked her to basically ‘leave’ and ‘be at peace’ and that ‘you are free now.’

After she finally left, he noticed what look like a blood stain on the back seat of the car and called me to tell me this. When we both got home he showed me the stain and my heart just about jump out of my body because we had just purchased that car like 3 weeks prior, brand new, and there were NO stains. My husband figures that the girl and the car are connected somehow.”

One morning I was in my kitchen and saw my daughter walk by and go in the living room. I said, “Good morning honey”. I got no response. I looked in the living room. No daughter. Looked in her bedroom, she was still sound asleep. Still gives me chills thinking of it.

“A classmate of one of my distant cousins is supposed to be a Medium. And my cousin didn't quite believe her and told her to summon our great grandmother and to ask a bunch of questions…

At one point she asked who was her favourite great grand child, believing herself to be the one. The answer came and it was a name she did not recognize. Later that night she told the story at home and got her parents and grandparents mad at her for disturbing great grandma. Of course the name of the favourite great grandchild is “Flora” (aka me!), the cousin who left the country many years ago so my cousin didn't recognize my name at all.”

“Not scary just supernatural… I was in Afghanistan, can’t get into what I was doing, but it was a small group... Unfortunately, I was severely injured. As I regained my senses, [I experienced] the most quiet I have ever heard. Then as I focused, there was this man kneeling next to me. He kept saying, “you're okay... Not your time... Think of your wife and children, again, not your time!” As I faded [out] and slept.

I woke up in Germany asking who the gentlemen was. Nobody knew what I was talking about. I put it aside in my mind. My grandmother passed a few years later and as we are cleaning, I noticed a picture… I yelled, “That was the man!” My mother said, “No way. That's your grandfather and he passed away during WW2...”

Was it my injuries or did he actually come?

I responded: Oh wow, that was absolutely him.

Positive with no doubt. Down to the small birthmark on his left cheek.”

My daughter had a full on conversation with my brother in law who died when she was three. She was just talking up a storm sitting in a corner and when I asked her [who she was talking to] she said, “Momma, it’s uncle Mikey!”

“I use to live in a high rise apartment building and, every once and a while, would hear a hard ball drop and roll (and nothing else; no running paws, no children laughing, just the ball drop and roll). Living in an apartment, I thought nothing of it... Until I made some friends in the building and we got to talking and it turns out we all heard the same ball drop and roll... At random times and from different floors and different sides... To this day no one knows what it really was or why it kept happening.

That building was haunted (100%) for the 6 years I was there, there were 2 deaths... Plus, it at one time was a hotel.” - Sarah

“About five years ago my grandmother was in the ICU. That weekend we had family and guests come into town to stay with us. That night in the middle of the night I woke up to see my grandmother on my bed… She passed away the next day.”

“Once, when I was younger, I was in my room doing my homework. My parents were in the basement, two floors down, and all of a sudden my dresser drawers started opening and closing behind me and my window, which was closed, the curtains started flowing and I heard them call my name over and over again. I froze solid.

Then I got the courage to run downstairs screaming and yelling to where my mom was. I hugged her so tight and I had to sleep with her for a week after that!” - Lori

When I was in my 20’s, i got onto the city bus in Hull to go to work. I saw my grandmother sitting on the front seat. She scooted over and tapped the seat so I could sit next to her. She had died when I was 13.
— Estelle

“My cousins and I were all sitting in my bedroom hanging out one night and we are all the biggest chickens. After a while of chatting, my radio randomly turned on and was on full blast. We all just screamed and ran out of the room and left my youngest cousin behind by himself!” - Courtney

My parents live in a 200 year old (plus) farm house. When we all lived in the house many years ago, weird things would happen to all of us around 2 or 3 am almost every night.
From weird sounds, to spooky dreams.
One time I was fast asleep in my bed, around 2 or 3, a big picture that was nailed to my wall (like that sucker was stuck on there) just fell off the wall, BIG loud crash! And I jumped ... like jumped out of bed . I didn’t believe that people could jump like that when they were scared, but one second I was in my bed, the next I was out my door.
Needless to say I slept on the couch downstairs that night...
— Lauren

“I got in a car accident a couple of years ago. My car was totaled as I landed on it’s roof. Luckily, thanks to the seat-belt, I came out with not a single scratch! I had my entire collection of Nickelback CDs in my car (yes I love that band, haha) and all of the CDs and their cases were broken except for 2 that were perfectly intact… Their titles, "The Long Road" and "Curb". My accident took place in a curb on that super long road you gotta take to go to the cottage (what I would tell people to give them directions). All of this a coincidence? I think not.
- Maya

“When I was young, I was having a sleepover at my grandparents house. I woke up in the middle of the night and felt like someone was watching me, so I happened to looked up, and there was a window there. I swear to you, there was a lady with long wavy hair staring at me. I naturally ran into my grandparents room freaking out and crying. My grandpa (such a hero) went out in his pjs, circled the house like 5 times to make sure no one was there. My siblings make fun of me for it, but I swear I saw someone!!”

“For the past two weeks, I have felt someone with me. I sensed it was a young guy. I saw him for a second the other day, in the doorway. But not the actual doorway, the reflection in the mirror. It scared me, but I am used to sensing spirits around me.”
- Annie

“My daughter (more so when she was younger) would call out from wherever she was in the house and say, "Yes?" And I'd say, "Yes, what?" She'd reply that someone had called her name. But no one had.”
- Kim

“When [my daughter ] was about 18 months old she had a very bad seizure and had clinically died when the doctors and nurses brought her back. She was able to see things that no one could.

She even was able to meet her great grandfather who had passed away 20 years prior to her being born and she gave a message to my father in law that his dad was very happy and loved and missed him everyday and that he was proud of family that my father in law created.

She would also look at pictures of Jesus and reply back with, “Yes, I will give them the message.”

Totally freaked me out but I let it be as she was just a child. To this day my daughter is 25 and she still see things that are unexplainable. She even witnessed my mom who passed away 5 years ago leave her body and then had encounter with her. I believe that she has this gift because she herself had died when she was younger and was meant for her to be a messenger for the unknown.” - Tania

“You might think I'm just crazy but all too often when I'm putting laundry away putting dishes away groceries even sometimes I will often be so sure that I already put something away and it'll reappear! The creepiest is laundry when I know, absolutely, that I've hung a certain shirt and put it in the closet and I'll get to the bottom of the pile and it's there again. I've never had anybody else witness this with me but I wish someone would!” - Kylie in Aylmer

“My daughter, when she was a bit younger, would go into the basement and she would always point at nothing and sometimes say, “The little boy wants to play”, and sometimes she would hide behind me cause the ‘man’ was scary… Obviously, I see nothing and I'm freaking out a bit cause we live in a house that has had a death in it before. I admit, sometimes you get an eerie feeling and we can hear footsteps on the floor above [when no one’s there]… Sometimes, it gets me but I just try not to think of it. Thankfully she has stopped seeing the little boy and man.”

“My father passed away suddenly almost 5 years ago. A few years before, I bought him a necklace (a fireman's cross with his nickname on it). Well, he passed in his sleep and when everything happened, my mom made sure to tell them she wanted the necklace back, to pass it back to me.
Well they couldn't find his necklace. We thought it was lost. Turns out the clasp had broken so it was on the nightstand. Only… he had been wearing it that morning and it was in perfect condition. I just found that really spooky. To this day, I always have this necklace on. It rarely comes off.” - Sarah

“We live in a 150 yr old house and I can often hear kids playing upstairs in my son’s room when no one is home but me. Other times, our front door slams shut and it freaks the kids out but I told the ghosts, “You’re welcome to stay here just don't scare or hurt my family.”. The door slamming has stopped but the kids still play every now and again. I could tell you lots more we lived here 30 years now.” - Karen

I am a nurse, and on one night shift we had an unexpected code, of a 50-year-old woman. With all our efforts she unfortunately passed away. When her husband came to the hospital he couldn’t bring himself to go into the room so he just sat in a chair in the hallway. And I’m not kidding, her call bell kept going off. It got to the point where we had to pull the wire from the wall. We ended up just telling the husband I don’t know what’s going on but maybe she sending some sort of message that she wants you by her side.

“My old farm house had a ghost and we believe it was my ex husband's uncle who passed away there. He would switch the rotation to the ceiling fan and also make the TV flicker on and off. We just had to tell him to stop and he would.

At 2 years old, my daughter Savana was down for her nap in her crib, wakes up and I go up to get her and she's standing in her crib pointing at a specific spot on the wall saying, "Bonhomme! Bonhomme!" (there's a man, there's a man)!”

“My mom was able to communicate with spirits and after we lost our cat she would feel her walking on the bed. My brother also felt her once and freaked out! But all my mom's stories of her encounters gave me goosebumps.” - Malissa

“My grandfather died suddenly, 10 days before my 13th bday. As a kid, you don't really think things through, I got mad at him for being there when my sister turned 13 but not me! I didn't tell anyone in my family this. The day of my birthday, I woke up and there was 13 red roses on the end of my bed. My mom, dad and sister all swear they did not put them there.

They have either kept the lie going for 23 years or they truly didn't do it.” - Jessica
