WINDMILL COTTAGE
A private rental, hosted by Amy Volume AND A NOTE for 2025.
You’ll have the entire cabin to yourself which includes the primary (queen), secondary (queen) and the kids’ room (two twins). The sleeping arrangements are best suited to four adult guests. Please declare all guests, including any potential visitors, when making your reservation. This will ensure the proper amount of linens are provided. Undeclared guests and/or any issues with vehicles blocking the road or neighbouring properties could result in the immediate cancelation of your reservation without refund.
NOTE: There is one security camera monitoring the fire pit and cabin exterior.
On the specified date of your arrival, you may check in at any time. Check out is 11AM. You will receive message from me the night before with the following reminder to please:
Place used linens, cloths and towels in hampers.
Wash your dishes (no need to put away).
Pack out all food and drink.
Place trash in secure bins.
Power off lights, fans/heaters, close all windows and doors.
Secure exterior blinds.
RULES
NO PETS. Pet friendly options: Barry’s Bay Cottages, Pleasure Point Cottages & Bevaline Cottage Resort.
No smoking inside; be responsible outdoors with butts, ash, etc.
No parties; 11PM to 8AM is ‘Quiet Time’.
Maximum of four adult guests.
POWER OUTAGES
Should you lose power during your stay, know that it will be temporary (barring a natural disaster). Our HydroOne info is on the fridge. Try to avoid flushing the toilet at this time as doing so may cause plumbing issues. Consider using the outhouse!
Flameless candles, flashlights, lanterns and extra batteries are provided.
FIRE SAFETY
You will see signs posted in town when the ban is in effect. You can check the fire status here: MadawaskaValley.ca. Bans are frequent during the summer months.
Primary heat source for cabin interior is one wood burning stove located in the dining room. To avoid disaster, keep the thermostat out of the ‘red-zone’.
THE FINE PRINT
When renting Windmill Cottage, renter acknowledges and accepts any and all risk of personal injury and assumes responsibility for any damage done to the property and it’s belongings during their stay. It is up to renter to immediately connect with host regarding issues with the property. We will do our best to repair or replace any broken or malfunctioning objects in a timely fashion.
Due to the remote nature of the cabin, please tell us of any broken or malfunctioning items at the time of their discovery. It can be difficult to obtain replacement parts without adequate notice which can impact the next guest’s experience.

LOCATION
Approximately 45 minutes from Algonquin Park’s East Gate and less than 10 minutes from the town of Barry’s Bay.
Our cottage is on a shared, dirt and gravel lane. Please respect our neighbours and any vehicles you may encounter on the private lane; treat as a one way. Parking fits two midsize vehicles. We do not accommodate trailers, boats, motorized watercraft, ATVs, quads/4 wheelers, 3 wheelers, etc.
IN TOWN
Tim Horton’s, The Hungry Pig Diner, Subway, Vito’s Family Restaurant, Hannah’s Chicken, Madawaksa Coffee Co., Ash Grove Inn and the Dairy Freeze.
Metro, Valu-Mart and LCBO for food and drink. You’ll also find a general store, Home Hardware, pharmacy, outdoor rental shop and clothes retailer (Mad Outdoors) plus the local curio shop “Grumblin’ Granny’s”.
ADVENTURE
Ontario Nature Trails has a great list of nearby places to explore if you’re interested in hiking and outdoor adventure.
Madawaska Kanu Centre for rafting trips and various paddling courses.
